Here's how investment in Trail works….
The money is being raised through UK company www.slicethepie.com. The ‘slice’ that we are offering investors is circa 18% of download sales over the first two years (from the start date of the initial public release). The album will be distributed through iTunes, Connect, Napster and all the other major digital download portals by US company Tunecore who will also collect the money. To record and release the album digitally, we are raising £20k which has been divided into 4000 'Backstage passes' (BSPs) of £5 each. For each BSP you buy you are entitled to buy 4 Contracts (shares) at 10p each. So the minimum holding of 1BSP and 4 contracts is £5 + £0.4 = £5.40 For every album that is downloaded (£7.99), Tunecore set aside £1.50 (or 15p per single-only downloaded) for shareholders. At the end of two years, that money is returned to the shareholders: E.g if we were to sell 14,000 albums and 4,000 singles the return would be (14,000 x £1.50) + (4,000 x £0.15) = £1.35 per contract 16000 total Contracts issued This is the break-even scenario as your 4 contracts will be worth the same as your initial investment, £5.40. For us to achieve this it would require a reasonable level of exposure including some touring and radio play. However, we believe our potential market is much greater than this and if we could sell in 2 years what the Arctic Monkeys debut album achieved in its first week (350,000 albums) then you would be looking at a return per contract circa £33. There is no magic formula for a commercially successful record but having a very strong set of songs that are both credible and marketable, as well as being responsible with a budget and having complete dedication to your cause can certainly help. We have already attracted the keen interest of some of the biggest producers in the world to make the album with us. As a final point, they say that smaller shareholders find it harder to get noticed/heard by management- not so with us: For anyone who invests £750 or more we are offering to come and perform a free concert over the summer.
